Broccoli

Broccoli is loaded with antioxidants, vitamin C, calcium, vitamin A, carotenoids, and folic acid, which is thought to be a major benefit in preventing heart disease.  Broccoli also contains lutein which can delay the progression of age related macular degeneration (AMD) which affects 10% of those over the age of 60.  Broccoli provides the phytochemical sulphoraphane which contains anti-cancer properties and is a good source of dietary fiber.

Broccoli is at the top of the superfoods list with its ability to boost the immune system, lower the incidence of cataracts, support cardiovascular health, build bones, and fight birth defects.  It is one of the most nutrient dense foods known and packs all this power with only 30 calories per cup.  Mom was right when she told you to eat your broccoli, it’s one of the most powerful weapons we have in our dietary arsenal against cancer.
